Red Hill

This is at Patrick Henry's Red Hill . I've blogged about it HERE before.

We are expecting quite the snow storm this afternoon which may leave us with about 8" of snow. Right now it is just raining.

Here's the latest warning from Weather.Gov

Winter Storm Warning
URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BLACKSBURG VA
407 AM EST THU JAN 17 2013

...HEAVY WET SNOW EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY TONIGHT...

.LOW PRESSURE WILL TRACK ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST STATES TODAY TO OFF
THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST BY MIDNIGHT. ON THIS PATH...COLDER AIR
WILL BE SITUATED MAINLY WEST OF THE BLUE RIDGE UNTIL EARLY THIS
AFTERNOON WHERE IT WILL CAUSE RAIN TO CHANGE TO WET SNOW. AS THE
LOW MOVES EAST THIS EVENING...THE COLDER AIR WILL SHIFT EAST
CHANGING RAIN TO SNOW IN THE PIEDMONT. AT THIS TIME...IT APPEARS
THE HEAVIER SNOWFALL WILL OCCUR ALONG THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF
NORTH CAROLINA...SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND SOUTHEAST WEST VIRGINIA. A
SECONDARY SWATH OF HIGHER AMOUNTS COULD ALSO FORM IN A NARROW BAND
FROM THE NORTH CAROLINA FOOTHILLS...TO SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA.
SNOWFALL RATES WITHIN THE HEAVIER SNOW BANDS COULD BE ON THE ORDER
OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR RESULTING IN RAPID ACCUMULATIONS IN A
SHORT PERIOD ESPECIALLY LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

Ashlyn has classes today and then work until midnight. I'm hoping the hospital calls and tells her not to come in. Supposedly they keep the crew they have on if the weather gets too bad instead of having the next crew drive in it. I'm a bit nervous, actually a lot nervous, having her go to work tonight. She's 18, too old for me to call in for her? ;) I want to!

I need to make a trip to WalMart here shortly. I'm sure it will be mass hysteria there with people stocking up and bread, milk and toilet paper. All the necessities needed when we hear it may snow :D BUT I need some new rechargeable batteries for my new camera so I can take pics of the snow. We have enough milk and tp, but I will probably pick up a loaf of bread lol

Also, I took down my 2012 calendar. I hate throwing calendars away that have beautiful photography in them, such as this one. This one is made by Norfolk Southern Railroad and has a lot of great train pictures in it. If anyone would like to have it for the photos, please let me know. I'll be happy to mail it to you!

Ok, I guess that is it...Now to go make the preps for our storm.

  2. I have been to Henry's place, I even lived near it once. Franklin county schools are closing 2 hours early, just rain here.

  3. Happy shopping, and don't worry too much. That's a gorgeous photo by the way! I'll be looking forward to seeing snow once you have your batteries!

  4. Oh Tanya do not worry till you have to but be prepared. I am not sure how your weather channel works but ours is wrong constantly and gets people upset for no reason.
I understand about your daughter I always wanted to phone in for mine in nasty weather Too. I bet our Moms were the same.
Batten down the hatches Tanya but don't worry you will be fine and so will your daughter. B

  6. Good luck on your snow storm...hope its not as much as called for. I hear you on the mass hysteria. It's funny though..I lived in Denver Co for 5years, with all the snow they get, there was never that hysteria like we have in the N.E, schools very rarely closed n it was just a normal kind of day. FYI about the calendar photos... have you tried to Mod podge a photo onto a canvas. Its so easy an a great way to make an inexpensive wall hanging.

  7. I saw the weather map posted on FB yesterday. Love the pink colors but sorry they represent 'bad weather'. Feel right up to date....! I went to the store today and stocked up too although I only think we are going to be inconvenienced (ie I won't be able to play golf on Sunday). Stay warm!

  8. It's funny to me that you are willing to join the mass hysteria at Walmart for a loaf of bread and rechargable batteries...kinda like Black Friday....the stores beckon for you to come.

I hope you don't get snowed in for long. I hate throwing away calendars, too, because we always jot down on each day what we did that day...so I have lots and lots of old calendars. Someday, when we are gone and they are going through our things, maybe my kids will sit down and read what we wrote and smile.

  9. Very nice sepia photo! Stay safe in the storm and especially through the stampede at Walmart. We joke around here about how everyone runs out for bread, milk and eggs - are they all planning to make french toast? Oh well - take care!

A great image indeed. Windy and rainy over here, still upper 60F during midday. Wishing you all the best and a save weekend.

  11. I heard about the snow too, all my friends in the DC area got work warnings this morning, yikes! I hope your daughter's day goes smoothly and no overnight-ing (and that you escaped the stampeding hordes safely!) Take care, be safe!

  13. Are they naming this snowstorm. I've heard the weathermen are going to start naming them like hurricanes.
I'll be looking forward to the snow pics!
