Signs, Signs - Givens Books

(click photo to enlarge)

Givens Books(Salem Store)

Ashlyn buys many of her school books from Givens. You can walk in, things look a mess, ask the clerk if they have a certain book and voila, they have it. It's amazing how they know their inventory off the top of their heads and are super helpful. I've been there with her to get books and they have every genre, not just school books. It's the kind of book store I can spend a day in! I do have a Nook but am still an old dinosaur when it comes to books ;)

  1. I'm glad to there are still book stores other than B&N still operating. This looks like a classic place. And it's a wonderful old facade.

  2. From the looks of it, the store has been there quite some time. I also like to hold an actual book rather than a tablet.

  3. Looks like a place I'd like, I've a favourite book store in Paris that scares you when you go it, such a jumbled mess but like your clerks at Givens they seem to know where every little thing and book can be found.

  6. I love bookstores like that. There's a Givens Bookstore in Lynchburg, too. I wonder if they're related?

  9. Absolutely agree Tanya.. it's still the only way I read :) I just like the feel and smell of books and j'adore perusing through a book store, even used books.. you never know what treasures you might find.. I hope Givens goes on for many more years, it seems that book stores have a short future sadly ..

  10. I guess that I have been by there but never noticed it. I need to send the wife there as she really gets ripped off on her text books for her online classes at ODU, they may have access to some that she needs. I like B&W movies and old books.

  19. I do love a good bookstore, and would most definitely rather shop in one like this than some of the huge ones.

  20. They don't seem to put much money into the appearance of the store, do they? But, that is fine with me. I am always thrilled when I come across a good, local bookstore. I don't have a Nook or Kindle and am not in a hurry to get one, despite being pretty wired in many other respects. I like the feeling of a book in my hands.
