Random 5 Friday - Bierer's Deli

Bierer's Deli, Buchanan

I like those windows that run across the top above the awnings.

Random 5:

1) We moved here to Botetourt County in 2008. Just like all our previous moves, schools were always our first concern when researching an area. We loved Botetourt for their school ratings and the fact that it was a little rural, not too far out, but not in the city of Roanoke. We still absolutely love it here. I found this video clip featuring Botetourt so you can see why we love where we live! Let me know if you recognize anything in the video!

2) We went to watch our minor league Red Sox play last night. That's always a good time!

3) I worked on some genealogy yesterday and found out that a great grandfather of mine was a Hessian Soldier. His name was Jean Baptiste Schneider. More research to do!

4) Tonight starts the 3 day Civil War reenactment in Buchanan. Yep, we're going!

5) Another blogger, I can't remember who so I apologize if it was YOU and I am not giving you proper credit but anyways, mentioned this show on their blog and I've gotten a bit hooked! It is called The Returned. It is in French but has subtitles. It's on Netflix. Here's a trailer:

Have a great weekend! Be safe!

  4. You live in a really pretty part of the state, Tanya. The Civil War reenactment sounds fun--take lots of pictures! There are different Civil War activities coming up over the next year around here to recognize the 150th anniversary.

  5. Good morning Tanya, nice shot and this is a real interesting 5. I enjoyed watching both videos. The first one show a bridge I saw in another post on Linda's blog. She and her husband visited it recently. I am going to share your link with her once I finish here. Her link is:

The movie is very similar to a theme of a new series on the TV but I can't remember its name.

Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend.

    1. Thank you for sharing my blog post, Denise. I wish we had more time to spend in Buchanan. I would have liked to explore some of the shopping. We had only the time to walk across the swinging bridge and back before heading up on the BRP. I found the pronunciation of Buchanan interesting. I was pronouncing it as BUUUUKanan, where the videographer pronounces it as BUCKanan.

  8. I took my kids to the Salem Red Sox game years ago when they were kids. As someone who is originally from Boston the real Red Sox are part of my DNA.

  21. We moved to Botetourt in 2002. Thanks for posting the Botetourt tourism video. I have to agree, this is a beautiful place to live. I saw Marie Gibbs of Virginia Mtn. Vineyards in the video. We're lucky enough to live across the road from their place. One of our daughters is currently thru-hiking on the AT! I could go on and on... and we do enjoy those Salem Red Sox games : )
