Our World Tuesday - Raleigh

Downtown Raleigh

While walking around we stumbled upon this live broadcast about to take place. The newslady looks hard at work ;)

“What’s not so great is that all this technology is destroying our social skills. Not only have we given up on writing letters to each other, we barely even talk to each other. People have become so accustomed to texting that they’re actually startled when the phone rings. It’s like we suddenly all have Batphones. If it rings, there must be danger.

Now we answer, “What happened? Is someone tied up in the old sawmill?”

“No, it’s Becky. I just called to say hi.”

“Well you scared me half to death. You can’t just pick up the phone and try to talk to me like that. Don’t the tips of your fingers work?”

  1. I still find it easier to talk than to text. :-)

  4. You are right! People text while they are walking, and not only teenagers...

  5. I love these slice-of-life shots. Smart phones are wonderful but terrible at the same time. What to do?

  6. We're addicted to the tech.

I often see news crews here downtown during the week, filing stories about whatever the federal government has done this time.

  7. How true it is, people have totally forgotten to communicate in person...they seem to have conversations with inanimate gadgets!

  8. I used to work in the news business and sometimes it really is easier to communicate with email or text. If a newsroom is really busy, there's no time to talk on the phone. But I agree with you generally. We should talk to each other more!

  9. Ha. We were on the same wave length with our postings today, I think. We are rapidly losing the art of communication.

  11. I agree completely - people have forgotten how to interact with each other - face to face - and I don't mean on skype!

  12. I prefer texting but that is because I am introverted.... And I once had a job that involved telemarketing that left me despising the phone.

  14. Funny, but true! My sister called me the other day instead of texting and I immediately said "what's wrong?".

  16. News lady's hair coloring needs a little attention. And, boy, isn't that right about technology winning over humanity.

  17. I wonder what people would do if cell phones went black just for one day.

  18. I'm surprised how people prefer texting to talking on phones. When texting first happened, I thought that would flop because people didn't like to write. Fooled me.

  21. Your right, go anywhere and people are on smart phones talking to some one else and not the person they are with. One of the reasons I don't have a smart phone
