Willy Nilly Friday 5 No. 86

Just in case you didn't get enough of all this chipped up brick and broken glass last week, I've got more for you!

1)
This is the main office...if you are dazed and confused and haven't been following, this is the vacant building in Buchanan I showed you last Friday. The building is over 100 years old, starting out as Virginia Can Company and then a button manufacturer...this building is up for sale.

2)
Lookie there, a huge office space...you can probably work out some sort of deal to keep the chair, desk and trash can!

3)
I agree, this building IS dope!

4)
You know me I'm down with OPP I can't resist those windows!

5)
Curb appeal! And this little beauty will link up with Denise's Today's Flowers ssshhh...don't hurt my flowers' feelings by calling her a weed...that is just not nice!

I don't know if I showed you the listing for this place but Here 'Tis
Should you decide to buy, please let the Town of Buchanan know that you saw it here first, I want a piece of that pie! Just kidding...I have no dog in this fight, just love the building!

So that is my 5 this week and I really do hope you will join in! Post 5 randoms, link back and visit others! Thanks so much for visiting and have a super weekend!

I'm linking up with Amy's 5 on Friday :)

Broken Windows, A Train Car and a Stonewall

Yesterday I took Braden, Dalton and Ashlyn (Christian couldn't make it) to Buchanan for lunch. They love the burgers at North Star. Nearby there is an old manufacturing building that is vacant and for sale that I wanted to snap some pictures of.
This started out in 1903 as Virginia Can Company, then later the Hafleigh & Company Button Factory till the latest, Groendyk Manufacturing Co

Then we drove about a block down to get a picture of the train car:
Ashlyn knows the people who gave this car to the town of Buchanan...I can't remember the story now lol....

Then of course I needed a fence photo for the Good Fences meme and this pretty place sits right behind the train car:

It was a nice day :) Linking with Tex's Good Fences

Abandoned Main Street IX

Pamplin City . Appomattox County

This old hotel actually sits behind Main Street. The hotel was built in the late 1800's as a home but then was converted to a hotel after the owner's wife became depressed following a fire at the family store.

The rain was really coming down when I took these...those are raindrops, not ghostly orbs ;)

This is the old bank. I was able to find that it was built in the 1920's. This building isn't exactly abandoned though. I *think* I saw somewhere that they rent out rooms...maybe it was posted on the side of the building...don't quote me though ;)

Isn't it sad the way the things were just left in the store like this?

Abandoned Main Street IV

This was the closest I could get the boys to this building. They said this was the creepiest one. I said it was actually my favorite. Just something about it.
This is the backside...
And a bit of a fence and sign...anyone able to make that out?
Pamplin City, Appomattox County

This is the 3rd building, going in order from Monday's post. Of course there was only a 20% chance of storms...and it had to start raining when we got there. Lots of the pictures look sunny but it was still raining.

Abandoned Main Street III

Pamplin City . Appomattox County

This is the 2nd building, next door to yesterday's building. And yes, I noticed the number plaques being new too. I don't know why that is. Perhaps something to do with the revitalization efforts? I love that colored glass over the door.

I know I'm totally overloading you on pictures right now but I wanted to show you every detail. This is the first building along Main Street. I thought it would be easy to find info on it since it has a name but nope, nothing comes up...hmmmmm...tomorrow I will show you building #2!

There are people that live in Pamplin City, this is just one part that has been deserted. At the end of this street sits the Pamplin train depot, which is now the library. For more on Pamplin City CLICK HERE

Abandoned Main Street

Main Street . Pamplin City . Appomattox County

On Sunday we took a little drive to Pamplin City. I had been wanting to see abandoned Main Street ever since I first heard about it. I don't know why it is abandoned and will need to dig a little deeper to find out. The buildings are currently used for storage and there's buzz of a revitalization once the High Bridge Trail connects to Pamplin.

I'll show you more of the buildings this week :)

Willy Nilly Friday 5 No. 16 - On Read Mountain Rd

Read Mountain Road, Cloverdale

There used to be a real pretty old house that sat on this piece of property. It was big and kind of in the same state of disrepair as this building. I always loved it though and would admire it when I drove by. I always meant to stop and take a picture. Then one day, about a year ago, I noticed activity going on around the old house and thought "yay, someone is going to fix her up"...then she was torn down...so, a couple of days ago while driving past, I made myself pull over and get a picture of this place and the barn, before they are both gone.

Now it's Willy Nilly time:

1) Did you know that someone is rebuilding the Gone With The Wind house? Yup, it's true...read about it HERE

2) Do you have a hard to shop for person on your Christmas list? I'm sure you can find something for them in the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book ...that Vanity Fair Academy Awards Experience would be a wonderful gift, just putting that out there ;)

3) I love street portraits...here are some great ones Meet Harlem's Official Street Photographer

4) Did you hear about the Canadian teen that was bullied? Read about the positive way she handled it Right Here

5) Some of you might know that our Ozzy is a Rottweiler. We've owned the Rottie breed for about 25 years now. I started this blog when we had Crockett and you have probably already seen photos of Ozzy on here, or been on his blog! Anyways, Rottweilers are such a terrific breed, very loyal, very gentle, and very smart! There's a documentary that was recently made about this amazing breed and I can't wait to see it. I wanted to share the trailer with you :)

Black Beauty Breed - Official Trailer from Angie Ruiz on Vimeo.

Our Ozzy sleeps in the boys room. He takes turns from Braden's bed to Dalton's bed and is very protective of his brothers!

Well that's my 5 for the week and now it's your turn! Post 5 random "willy nilly" things and link back to me. Visit other Willy Nilly participants and have fun! Have a great weekend too!!
