Sharp Top Mountain
In 1943, 5 Army men were killed when they crashed their B25 into Sharp Top Mountain. This view of the mountain is taken from Elk Run Trail at Peaks of Otter
You can read more about the crash

And you can read more about Peaks of Otter HERE
I know, I'm back running photos of Peaks of Otter, but we haven't been anywhere else since, it's cold!

sur cette photo, la montagne semble mystérieuse, inaccessible.
ReplyDeletein this photo, the mountains seem mysterious and inaccessible.
It's really 'sharp top mountain'. (In Beskidy Mountains we have mountain called Stożek (cone), but only top is similar to the cone, and not from all the views.)
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy to be seeing these photos having read so much about the Blue Ridge Parkway. Such wilderness simply doesn't exist here..
ReplyDeleteMountains are always beautiful to look at day after day. I'm sure you know a lot about the weather just by the changing view of the mountain.
ReplyDeleteA really nice sharp top! Did any otters ever reach it? ... and you?
ReplyDeleteIsn't that just the prettiest mountain peak? and yes... it's been cold. Froze my fingers off taking photos a few days ago.... aaah, the things we do for blog photos, eh?

Thats the kind of forest I would like. Very dense. I can see why its call Sharp Top.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful mountain. It's the precise shape that children draw when they draw mountains.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like an ancient pyramide! :-)
ReplyDeleteUnique looking 'sharp top mountain' what a view.
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel -- it's cold here also. The mountain has a most appropriate name.
ReplyDeleteyou ever head up there and look for wreckage?
ReplyDeleteYou can see why it got its name! Sad about the crash.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you took this picture looking at the mountain through the trees. Nice perspective!
ReplyDeleteI like the view through the trees.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouraging words you've continued posting on my blog during my 2 week break. I will try to start my blog up again. :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting land formation. I definitely understand why the name Sharp Top.
ReplyDeletevery cool shot - the peak makes a perfect triangle and it's neat how it can be seen thru the woods. sad about the crash.
ReplyDeletePS During the break, we went to Palm Springs Air Museaum and talked to a lot of great old guys who survived WWII as crew on B-25s and B-17s. Fascinating stories and I just love that they are around to tell them. We also met a WAC who wrote several books on the women pilots during the war.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the photos and read about the crash. It was very interesting. A careless mistake by an air controller. I was amazed at the young ages of the flyers too. Thanks for this Tanya. - Dave
