SkyWatch Friday
Today I had to go into Roanoke and get new tires put on my little mini van. I love this old Dr. Pepper sign and the Firestone store was right across the street. The weather was so cold that I just wimped out and snapped the photo from inside the lobby while waiting for my tires to be put on. The numbers 10, 2 and 4 on the sign supposedly respresent the time of day that your body needs that extra little boost of energy and of course they think Dr. Pepper would be the perfect choice!
So now, back to the cold. The US is having a total cold snap and here's our forecast for today and tomorrow:
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 7. Wind chill values as low as -3. Northwest wind around 11 mph.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 17. Wind chill values as low as -9. West wind between 10 and 13 mph.
Friday Night: Clear, with a low around -1. Calm wind.
Schools here in Botetourt County have been delayed for 2 hours in the morning due to the cold! Wow, never had that happen before :)
Also, on Friday is Lee-Jackson Day . A state holiday here in Virginia. I never knew about this holiday till I noticed a sign on the library that they will be closed in observance!

even diet Dp is great stuff and natural refreshment. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteI only had the diet variety. And I like it. The sign too.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the rest of the country seem to be having the brrr factor. You dont wanna know what our temps are in SF bay area, but I will tell you, an unseasonably warm 62-70F since Monday.
I might drink Dr. Pepper, if I drank soft drinks, although doesn't Dr. Pepper have prune juice in it? Might not want to drink it three times a day.. It's getting pretty cold here in N. Florida, flirting with the teens.
ReplyDeleteI never could get a taste for Dr. Pepper, but I do love the sign! Yes, it's cold... my daughter's family in Iowa are hunkered down... they have a windchill of -43 degrees... BRRRRRRRRRR

Love the DP sign. I read a local blog today about how the guy is addicted to Dr. Pepper, now I your sign. HUMMM....
ReplyDeleteWe are suppose to have the coldest morning tomorrow, going to be in the low 20s.
The Dr. Pepper sign against the sky is a good choice for skywatch.
ReplyDeleteWe're having about the same type of weather here in Tennessee. Not fun.
good shot...when its warmer i am going to take a stab at shooting it at night...but gosh knows it is too dang cold to be out there right now.
ReplyDeletehave a great weekend if i don't happen to drop by again.

Brrr! Are these Fahrenheight of Celcius Tanya? - Dave
ReplyDeletenever heard of dp in mumbai!
ReplyDeletekeep warm!
The sky looks cold..sorry to hear about your cold snap. Hope it improves soon. I like the architecture of those two buildings but especially the one to the right..it seems like an example of art deco..
ReplyDeleteVery cool sigh! Is Dr. Pepper a kind of Red Bull or Isostar?
ReplyDeleteA nice bu cold sky with pepper (but no salt)! It seems that Dr. Pepper may be present in Europe, but at least to me it's unknown here!
ReplyDeleteWill you ever learn to work in centigrades? !! :-))
Dr. Pepper is a kind of coke/soft drink. I just assumed it was everywhere! It's not like Red Bull, I don't know that it has a higher caffeine content than Coke, I can't tell.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Diet Dr. Pepper is one of the best diets drinks in my opinion!
Darla, no, Dr. Pepper does not contain any prune juice. According to Snopes, that rumor has been around since the 30's!
For those around the world who have never heard of Dr. Pepper, here's their website http://www.drpepper.com/
And Peter, about the centigrades, funny my husband and I were just talking about this when we were out hiking on Sunday. Some things are marked to prepare us for the change and we learned it in school but it just hasn't taken over, lol.
DP never reall took off here. Like the skyline scne and what a blue sky.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you google your blog. Some of us cdo sites arebeing ripped off. All on post today.
For that extra perk at 10, 2 and 4...and to keep warm...I recommend a nice hot Italian cappucino in place of Dr. Pepper! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up, my grandparents ran a country store in Georgia and they had a Dr. Pepper clock on the wall that looked just like that sign!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a sign like that in years! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWell...it was -19 F this morning and they canceled school.....supposed to warm up to -1...I am staying in ...
ReplyDeleteI so remember the Dr. Pepper commercials (I'm a pepper you're a pepper wouldn't ya like to be a pepper too???? be a pepper, drink dr. pepper) which is the one AFTER the 10 2 and 4 add....nice one.
A day off to enjoy the cold! Brrr!
ReplyDeleteI like Dr Pepper but I like it warm! I know!
Dr. Pepper with lime juice is pretty good! Other than that, it reminds me of 5th grade, back when I also used to drink Mountain Dew. Two good ball park drinks!
ReplyDeleteTanya, you weren't kidding about the cold. BRRRR! I don't miss it one bit!
Bless your heart. How did you adjust from living here (San Diego)?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Dr. Pepper!!
If I well understand what you write, it means you're having a long week end inside...;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd no Dr Pepper in France...A drink? Is it good?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great old sign. Gotta love Dr. Pepper. BBBrrrr. It's really cold here too, but not THAT cold. Stay warm! oh, and happy Lee-Jackson Day.
ReplyDeleteI love this sign. I've seen it before and wanted to take a picture!
ReplyDeleteWe're in single digits, too.
ReplyDeleteLove the sign in your sky photo!
