Carrying on from yesterday's post, here's the inside of the City Market Building. We stopped in for lunch one Sunday afternoon not too long ago. I guess Sunday's a fairly quiet around here. We sat upstairs and had it all to ourselves.

"The 1922 Georgian-Revival City Market Building standing today was designed by the Lynchburg architecture firm Frye & Chesterman. As a destination for farmers who traded within the city’s network of wholesale dealers, the building met the same important purpose as similar markets in cities across the country, ushering food from local farms to the tables of Roanoke households. It replaced an 1885 market building at the same site, which also served as the Roanoke Opera House and the station of a fire company." For the rest of the story, Click Here!

It's snowing here right now. Waiting to see if schools get closed. My yard already has a dusting of white. Weather.gov says we may get 3-5 inches. When I went to bed last night they were only predicting a dusting to 1 inch. Who knows?!

That is a spectacular ceiling, and a wonderful bright airy space beneath it. Hope the snow doesn't last!
ReplyDeleteI love that they reuse these old buildings, and look at all that space between tables, lots of room! Snow? Its supposed to be Spring.
ReplyDeleteIt just started snowing here at 7am, so far school is on schedule, I am shocked.
ReplyDeleteWe were supposed to get an inch or so yesterday, but it didn't happen. And that's okay! Hope you day is not disrupted too awful much by the snow. xo
ReplyDeleteYep, snowing here, too. I guess spring is over. ;-)
ReplyDeleteSnowing still? Will it ever end this year? Having a quiet lunch is not always bad!!
ReplyDeletegosh, good luck with the snow! that looks like a neat place to eat - especially without crowds of people.
ReplyDeleteYep, it looks pretty empty. I don't eat out on Sunday either unless I am traveling.
ReplyDeleteLove all the space! It's sometimes nice when other people are around, but it's also nice to have the space to yourself. :)
ReplyDeleteit is still snowing here ... wonder when it will stop? i love the ceiling. what a cool design. ( :
ReplyDeleteHope the snow doesn't get too carried away! The ceiling is really neat! It looks like a nice eating spot, especially when it's not so crowded.
ReplyDeleteThe inside of the building looks great, but not many people seem to eat lunch there. Perhaps the food isn't as good as the environment. Don't worry about snow this time of year. It won't last long.
ReplyDeleteI love the look inside, a nice place for lunch. It snowed all morning here and into the afternoon, and stopped about an hour ago. Not that bad though, roads are clear and I can already see patches showing.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful place. We received a dusting today. Tired of the snow!
ReplyDeleteWe've got a place here that looks very similar to this.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful space, Tonya... very open and pleasing to the eye.
ReplyDeleteWe've got snow again today. I'm beginning to think spring is nothing more than rumors, lies, and conjecture.
That is a great ceiling. It looks like the market could use some more merchants. They need more kiosks and carts to fill up that center area.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like such a cute spot for a nice meal.
ReplyDeleteSnow?
Snow?
Isn't it spring?
XO
It looks like it would be a good place to people watch.
ReplyDeleteI really do need to visit the City Market. Love that ceiling!
ReplyDeleteWe got a few inches--much more than predicted.
It is indeed a wonderful building... inside and out.
