We were sitting in our car at Dude's Drive-In eating our lunch (I've shown you Dude's HERE ) and Braden asks "Is there a Macy's up there?"
Ha, the big red star is so Macy's!
Why no, it's a drive-in!
The Starlite is in Christiansburg, just up the road from Dude's Drive-In...they have been showing movies since 1953!

What a find!
ReplyDeleteCool sign and I like the Macy's star.. There are not too many drive-in movies left..Great post, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteRelics of another time for most places today. We still have 2 left in the area. One runs in summer. The other is under repair and hopes to return. Real estate is brings the big $$$$ though.
ReplyDeletewe have been there several times ... loved it!! we love finding Drive In Theaters ... they are so rare. love that sign. ( :
ReplyDeleteGreat starlite sign! Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteWe still have a drive-in theatre here...but for how long? A housing development is going in near to the theatre and even though they'll know it was there BEFORE they moved in they will be sure to complain AFTER.
ReplyDeleteWe had a Starlight drive-in in Illinois when I was a kid. I don't think it is operation anymore.
ReplyDeleteA totally different type area for me in your pictures.
ReplyDeleteBut very interesting
Thanks for visiting to my blog
♥ly greetings from germany
pretty darn cool to find one still operating! and you're right about the star looking like macy's. :)
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a drive-in movie theater. Yep! Definitely Macy's.
ReplyDeleteWOW this brings back memories from childhood. Great to see one still operating and looking so good. Love the star. Great pics!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to meet you and thanks for stopping by and your kind comment.
Enjoyed my visit here!!
Great sign! I few years ago, a couple started up a drive-in movie theater in our area. There hadn't been one in operation for years. The kids LOVE it! :)
ReplyDeleteBoth places are awesome. First dinner at Dude's then the movies! Brings back my childhood days. That's how we spent many a Friday nights!
ReplyDeleteThere's been one up the valley from here, but I have no idea if it still operates.
ReplyDeleteFun scenes. That's funny about the red star. I still call Macy's the Bon Marche since Macy's bought them out here in Seattle. I had so many fun times at the Drive-In theater growing up. I did squint and I did see some fences!
ReplyDeleteYou don't see many Drive-In's any more (we have one just over the state line in OR here). They are so nostalgic. I like the cheery red/blue color combo of the fencing here.
ReplyDeleteA great find.
ReplyDeleteThat red star is huge. I bet no one misses it.
ReplyDeleteWow! So now Virginia has our Hulls and your Starlite, very cool! I would have thought Macys too, LOVE them! We have to go to short Pump to find one. I love your first picture of the Starlite marquee! I like that blue house, too. Does it belong to the theater?
ReplyDeleteHere is a site that has the location of VA drive in theaters or what is on the location now.

Drive-ins are so rare!
ReplyDeleteA drive-in! It's been so long since I've even thought of one. We went to a few back in the days when my dad had a 1964 Dodge Dart.
ReplyDelete~
Love that old sigh! Very colorful post, even the fence!
ReplyDeleteWow, that drive-in certainly brings back some memories for me. When I was a kid, my parents used to put us in the back of our station wagon in our pajamas and take us to the drive-in movies. We were always asleep by the time the movie was over!
ReplyDeletesame here lois!!
DeleteWow. A drive in still in operation from long ago. You don't see that often.
ReplyDeleteWe have a drive in right down the country road. They are an experience, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI think they need to bring them back. I love their sign.
ReplyDeleteHello Tanya; We cannot see these Drive-in, wish we had p:-) The Macy's Star is really eye catching.
ReplyDeleteSending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend, xoxo Miyako*
Neat! There's a drive-in not too far from us in Stephen's City (VA).
ReplyDeleteI remember packing the kids in the car and taking them to the drive-in when my husband was doing shift work. Kept them quiet and me entertained at the same time. Thanks for the memory.
ReplyDeleteNow that must have been a blast from the past?!
ReplyDeleteThat drive-in sign is pretty special, Tanya. As is the big red star.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your professional approach. These are pieces of very useful information that will be of great use for me in future.
