Signs, Signs & A Good Fence In Raleigh, NC

Last Friday we went on a little jaunt to Raleigh. Raleigh is about a 3 hour drive. We went for food...Mexican food. Southern California Mexican food....but more on that later....this is the Executive Mansion...where the guvnah lives....pretty huh?!
Up close and personal

The pretty wrought iron fencing, all decked out for the holidays

This gate says "Go away peasant, you are not welcome here"

Maybe this is the servant's entrance...

This plaque hangs on the brick wall outside

Some shady looking peeps loitering outside...quick, call in the secret service!

Linking with Signs, Signs & Good Fences

It's a measly 5 degrees out right now...school is operating on a two hour delay because it is so cold! Really though, what diff will two hours make in the temps? 1 degree?!

  3. Quite pretty estate and fences. Always wanted to visit Raleigh, but have only gotten to Clayton. Maybe our next trip to Charlotte. btw--I used to work in a school system, and that 2 hour delay is mostly to get the buses going in the mornings (as well as hoping for a temp rise for the kids, too). There are usually older buses in the fleet that need extra time to warm up or to get a jump when the temps fall to single digits.

  4. Sounds like a delightful road trip in so many ways. I wonder if the mansion is ever open to the public for tours? Ours in Minnesota is, and it's always free, you just have to check for the times! I did feature ours just a couple of weeks ago too!

  8. This is cool! I have always wanted to go to N.C. but don't like long trips. I bet they have Spanish moss and Antebellum mansions too. O.K. you went all the way there for dinner?? I can't wait till your next post, it will be a real doozy...

  19. Schools closed here. 9% of school buses were out of operation for one reason or another related to the cold.

  20. I lived in Raleigh 93 - 96. No Mexican food there at the time. Well, one restaurant that served green beans on the enchilada plate. Not what I was used to in Texas. That sure is a grand mansion! I always wanted to take a tour, but didn't get to. Stay warm!

  24. Quite fancy, Tanya. Similar in size and feel to the Connecticut governor's mansion, which is maybe half a mile from my West Hartford house.

I#ve heard in the news about the big cold in State. -

Reading your post, comes in my mind one little old fun, which was popular in Germany . Hope, I can write it understandly in English.

James, how many there are degrees in the room?
    Nine, Sir.
And how much are there outside?
    One, Sir.
James, open the window and let the one degree in!
