Last month we took a canoe ride down the James River. We used Twin River Outfitters out of Buchanan. They dropped us off 5 miles up the river and we returned at the shop. We took the easiest trip, not sure how the kids would do but they did great. Nick, Ashlyn and Braden were in one canoe and Christian, Dalton and myself were in the other. About halfway through, a huge storm blew in, lots of rain and lightning. We were able to find a spot along the river to get out of the water and get a little protection from the elements. It was a little scary but memorable!

Saturday Photo Hunt-Painted
This is a facebook photo hunt called "Saturday Photo Hunt" and today's theme is "Painted". I'm new to this little meme so I'm not really sure how it works, seems like you get the theme on Saturday morning so I had to dig through my archives to find a photo that corresponds with the theme since Saturday's I stay pretty busy, too busy to be hunting up a theme pic lol....but I digress... I was able to find this patriotic painted van that we spotted in Floyd County, VA over the 4th of July weeekend!

SkyWatch Friday
Wednesday night we didn't have any football practice and it was such a nice evening so Ozzy and I decided to run over Greenfield for a walk around the trails. This is my favorite place to walk, it's so pretty and peaceful. Occasionally we'd pass a couple out walking or a jogger but the place is so big that you feel like you are there all alone, just me and Ozzy! Since this is just 5 minutes from my house, I always wonder why I don't this more often?!
Here we stopped for one of many breaks, Ozzy isn't really big on a lot of walking and loves breaks, and I just loved the look of this field of Queen Anne's Lace with the clouds moving in, so voila, it's my SkyWatch Friday pic! To see more skies from all over the world, visit Skyley!
and if you are new around here and wondering who this "Ozzy" is, you can meet him here!
Have a great weekend and Happy SkyWatching :)

Barn Charm Tuesday

This barn is on Blacksburg Road and the picture is the result of a drive by. I used the "focal soften" effect from picnik because it didn't turn out great, being a drive by and all but it was my barn for this weeks entry and I liked it mostly because of the cute deer standing there!
To see more barns from all over, visit Tricia!

August Theme Day - Postcard Worthy
This month's theme in the City Daily Photo community is "Postcard Worthy". I don't care for the title of the theme, sounds rather presumptuous to assume your photo is "postcard worthy" don't you think? But anyways, playing along with the theme, I wanted to chose a photo of a place that holds great memories for us and this would be the place. This is our little spot on Craig Creek where we have spent many weekends this summer to escape the heat. Yesterday we loaded the cooler with drinks and sandwiches and headed out. We were so lucky to have the whole creek to ourselves all day!
Being from SoCal we really appreciate places like this that are unspoiled by development and huge crowds of people!
