“An old house that had lived its life long ago and so was very quiet and wise and a little mysterious. Also a little austere, but very kind.”

For this Willy Nilly 5 I'm taking you inside the Bedford Museum:

1)
Lacey Putney
This made me think of Ashlyn. She loves politics for some reason unbeknownst to me. She is majoring in Political Science at JMU and has just accepted an internship in the General Assembly in Richmond. This is her 2nd internship this school year.

2)
I can get lost in these old photographs....

3)
"Susie G. Gibson High School opened in 1954. It was the first new high school for Blacks in Bedford County, VA replacing the Bedford Training School." ...Taken from their Facebook Page

4)
"Love is Eternal"

5)
My dad was retired Navy...he bought me a new doll everytime he was over-seas...which was most of my childhood. I had shelves of dolls from all over the world lined up on my bedroom walls...my mom managed to save a few but they are in poor shape...I sure wish I had thought to pack them up when I moved out of the house....

Now it is your turn! Post 5 randoms and link back! Visit others, have fun and thanks for playing! Have a great weekend!!

Good Fences - Bedford County Courthouse

"Built in 1930, this Classical Revival building features an Ionic-order porch, Corinthian columns and Flemish-bond brickwork. The massive triangular pediment has a unique design incorporating symbols of the local crops of corn and tobacco and the official crest of the fourth Duke of Bedford, John Russell. Encircling the grounds like silent sentinels stand monuments to veterans of the American Revolution, Civil War and World War II. Main Street, Bedford. Noteworthy is the D-Day monument commemorating Bedford’s considerable losses on June 6, 1946." ...taken from Visit Bedford
These last 2 are the views from behind the courthouse where we sat for lunch. You can see the artists that I showed you on Tuesday in this last photo, and some fences! Linking with TexWis today Good Fences

Bedford County
See the little tin man climbing the lamp post?

It was lunch time so we grabbed some hamburgers and went and sat out behind the courthouse to enjoy our lunch. This was the view behind the courthouse...Remember yesterday's mural claiming to be the "art and antique district"?...well this was not too far from there and they weren't kidding about it being the art district ay?!

Roanoke's Christmas Tree from 2014....Hoping we make it to tonight's Dicken's of a Christmas ...we normally aren't able to go as the boys have always had basketball practice on that night. Last year was our first year, and although they had practice, we still went, were late but at least we saw a bit! No practice is scheduled for this Friday so I'm going to twist Nick's arm!

1) Click Here for my post from last year's Dicken's of a Christmas post

2) A present came in the mail for me today...no surprise since I ordered it but I am soooo excited...ok, it's a new camera! But I still have to wrap it up and put it under the tree...Nick's a stickler like that!

3)
Colonial Elementary School . Blue Ridge
The boys had basketball practice here Tuesday night...when I came back to pick them up I really liked the way this doorway was lit up. I was reading that this school was built in 1939 as a high school. Interesting history on the schools in Botetourt County HERE

4)
Downtown Roanoke...don't ask me what building this is because I cannot remember! I think I shall link this to Weekend Reflections ...I love reflections and always forget to play along to this linky!

Our local high school's football team has made it into the state championship semi-finals. This is the first time in the history of the school! Everyone is really excited about it! The game is on Saturday and I will be helping out in the concession stand. I'm sure I will be busy, busy, busy!

So for my 5 today, I'll show you the buzz around town!

1)
Our school is Lord Botetourt High School...they are the Cavaliers...

2)
Ashlyn graduated from this school in 2012 and Christian in 2015...

3)
Happy & sad....such a juxtaposition...the excitement for the game...the flag at half staff in honor of the victims in San Bernardino...

4)
Braden and Dalton will be going to this school next fall...can you believe it?! Me neither!

5)
You can just make out a bit of the high school and the parking lot behind that Bellacino's sign...

Well, that is my 5 for this week! I hope you will join in! Post 5 randoms, link back and visit others!! Have fun and have a great weekend!! Go CAVS!!

A couple of weeks ago we saw them getting the outdoor ice rink ready...that's it, straight ahead...
...and last weekend it was ready to go! Funny thing, we were downtown on Sunday and walked over to see the rink...it was just me, Nick and Braden and Dalton...found out later that Christian and his girlfriend were there ice skating! We must have just missed each other! We'll be back to ice skate one of these days!

The outdoor rink is located in Elmwood Park...for more info CLICK HERE
