Friday Fences - Cumberland Island
While looking through my Picasa files, which I still really don't know how to navigate my way around, I found some pictures of our trip to Cumberland Island. This was a few years ago, while we still lived in Georgia. The kids were so little.
This is a teency glimpse of the Recreation Building ruins.
The Dungeness Recreation Building, which once held an indoor swimming pool, squash court, gymnasium, billiard room and several large guestrooms, has since collapsed from years of neglect.
You can read more about the Carnegies and their life on Cumberland Island here.
Linking up with Friday Fences
Have a great weekend!

i totally understand the picasa album issues ... i can not figure out to use the photos? copy & paste or what? some of them i would love to use again.ReplyDelete
great fence shot. have a great weekend. ( :
when you take a picture from the "tray" then click "file" up along the top of your screen. it will allow you to save it where ever you want to. i don't understand the way the albums load to picasa...it's kind of a mess! you can also edit in picnik from picasa, but i've had some issues with that working once in a while.Delete
You always find the neatest fences!ReplyDelete
Picasso ?? me either:)ReplyDelete
Love this shot glad you found it. B
I like how the Recreation Building is just visible over the fence.ReplyDelete
all is green in your countryReplyDelete
Great photo of the fence and the ruins. I'd like to see more of them.ReplyDelete
A glimpse of what must have been a very huge building to house all that.ReplyDelete
I like the fence!
I agree about Picasso - not user friendly.
My cousin visited there, and her descriptions and photos were really sad.ReplyDelete
makes a nice rustic photo (or did).ReplyDelete
Cool wood fence & I 2nd TexWisGirl's comment...ReplyDelete
I know what you mean about navigating thru Picasa, I still don't completely understand it either.
I would imagine lots of ppl would be lost if they're changing the names of the hwys, that borders cruel & unusual punishment! LoL! =)
Nice shot! Kind of funny that the sign seems to have held up so well. Great find.ReplyDelete
I love going through old photos. :)ReplyDelete

It looks mysterious in the background.ReplyDelete

Hard to imagine this as being once a full recreation center.ReplyDelete

I find old ruins fascinating.ReplyDelete
It's beautiful. Looking forward to reading about the Carnegies. Isn't this where JFK, Jr. was married? I read I biography that talked a lot about the island. So interesting!ReplyDelete
