Happy Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving. It is our first Thanksgiving in our new house. I can't help but wonder how many Thanksgivings were celebrated here and what food was served, who sat at the table, what the people looked like, etc...

Thanksgivings used to be so big as a child, or maybe it's just my memory of it. We always had several family members and friends and of course the children's table where me and my cousins and nephews and nieces sat. After the years passed, our family grew smaller with deaths and divorces and the kids growing up and moving. After I got married at 19, Nick and I would start out at my grandparents house, which they always ate at around noon. That was their big dinner of the day. After eating and visiting, we'd head over to Nick's grandmothers house for yet another meal!

Now that we've moved out of state, we don't get to spend Thanksgivings with our extended families and friends but those memories keep them right here with us.

This Thanksgiving we have so much to be greatful for and I feel truly blessed.

So what is on your menu this Thanksgiving?
Ours is the same every year:

Vegetable tray
Turkey of course!
Cornbread dressing (love this from Nick's grandma's)
Green bean casserole
Sweet potato casserole
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Corn Pudding (Christian got this recipe sent home from school back in kindergarten and we've used it ever since)
Ambrosia salad
Pumpkin Pie (yuck) Pecan Pie (yum!)

And a big ol nap!

(These festive, little turkeys above were drawn/colored by my littlest turkeys, Braden and Dalton. Aw, and look how sweet, they are thankful for "Me"!) I love those little guys :)

  1. bravo pour les dessins ;o) je te souhaite une "Happy Thanksgiving" a toi et a toute ta famille.

bravo for drawings ;o) I wish you a "Happy Thanksgiving" to you and all your family.

  2. A happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. We notice that our Christmasses are smaller celebrations compared to when I was makes me sad and I have to invite friends to fill the gaps round the table..
Have a great day. I bet you'll keep that little drawing forever.

  3. What an enormous meal -- you would need a nap after that. The drawings are really cute.

  4. What an enormous meal -- you would need a nap after that. The drawings are really cute.

  5. Your sons' drawings are fantastic and so is your menu for today! Mmmmmmm... :-)
A happy Thanksgiving for you all!

  6. Thank you Olivier :)

Angela, our Christmas' are the same too. It's sad isn't it? Thank you :)

Joan E, it is enormous! But you can't cut anything out! Thanks for stopping by :)

    Thank you JM :)

Well, I've got the turkey in the oven and it smells wonderful! I cooked the cornbread last night for the dressing so I have to assemble that. Usually I do that the night before but I was too lazy to finish last night. Ashlyn is looking forward to helping out with all the cooking today!

  7. A very appropriate post for the day. Happy Thanksgiving to you! May your day be both joyous and fulfilling! I got up early to make cornbread and now we're off to a local school to help deliver dinners to families who might otherwise go without. This tradition has been in effect for decades with a legion of volunteers who purchase and cook the food, fill the boxes, coordinate the addresses, and deliver the meals. When we return to our own home to have our Thanksgiving meal it will truly be a day of blessings! We give thanks for our priviliged lives.

  8. Oh Kate, that is great! I've wanted to do something like that with my kids. I'll need to look into it :)

  9. Happy Thanksgiving. On my menu is the pink stuff. I dont know what it is but its good.

  10. LOL Jim, the "pink stuff"? You need to take a picture so I can identify it!

  11. Braden and Dalton are so cute! Love their artwork - how nice they both are thankful for their mom. ;-)

  12. How sweet that they are thankful for you! My kids are grown, but now I have grandkids and they think I hung the moon because I spoil them so much.

  13. Aw, that's what grandmas are for Lois! When my mom comes out, she spoils the kids like crazy!

  14. Happy Thanksgiving, Tanya! I love the drawings your boys made for you and their wishes are so sweet! Sounds like you've got lots of food to eat! Yummy!

  15. Thanks Hope! LOL, we'll be eating it for days!

  16. I like that tradition of getting together with all the family.
