Random 5 Friday - Decay

Some of my favorite trains are these old rusty ones that are just waiting to be used for scrap and parts. The decay reminds me of my pal JM's series @ Lisbon Daily Photo.

Now some randoms:

1) Remember last week when I told you I was stressed? Well it was because I had a couple of skin conditions that were really scaring me. I had a sore on the side of my nose that just wouldn't heal. I had had it for a year and was by now too terrified to go see a dr. (I know, not good, go to the dr.) Then I had these pinkish things coming up on the backs of my hands and then a bump formed on the top of my head. I am fair skinned and spent too much of my youth laying out in the sun in Southern California. Then as I got older, tanning beds. I've gotten better at applying sunscreen by now but alot of damage has already been done. Anyways this has been consuming me, fearing the worst, for a year now. I finally told my husband last Sunday how freaked out I was getting. Monday he made me an appointment with a dermatologist for last Friday. I was scared to go. He went with me. As soon as my dr walked in, Dr. Jason, he asked me what was bothering me and I broke down and cried and pointed to all the things that were scaring me. He just calmly told me that it was ok, none of them are serious and I would be just fine. I had 2 very common forms of skin cancer that he was able to just freeze right off, right then and there. What a RELIEF. I can't tell you what a weight that was taken off my shoulders and like I have a new lease on life. He was the NICEST dr I've ever been to and if you are in the Roanoke area, need a dermatologist, I highly recommend Dr. Jason @ Virginia Skin & Vein.

2) I've been listening to Johnny Cash Radio in the mornings after everyone clears out of the house. I love that music! When I was a kid my mom always called him my boyfriend. I went to a JC concert with her and my grandma and I got to go up on stage and get a kiss from JC. I don't remember this so I must have been super young, I only remember through the story my mom always told ;)

3) I'm ready for spring. Spring is my favorite season.

4) And the thought of spring just NOW reminded me that I need to sign the boys up for baseball. Today is the LAST day. Completely slipped my mind. Writing myself a note right now to attach to the computer!

5) Basketball season ended on Monday but tomorrow we start the tournament. Double elimination. Our first game is a team that's pretty tough. We lost once to them by 1 point in overtime and then won our last game with them. But it's hard. This team plays dirty. So good luck to our Greenfield Thunder!

Have a great weekend :)

  5. What a scare! I'm a little like you in that I avoid the doctor until I 'm too worried to take it - not good. We really need to change that! I'm so glad that everything went okay, and what a sweetie your husband was to help you through this! I hope Spring in your area is wonderful this year!

  9. So glad your husband took over and made the appointment for you. Just think your could have avoided a whole year of worrying. But the important thing is that you are fine and you got a great doctor!

  10. Glad you got to the doc. Some things can be cleared up if you get them early. Skin cancer is a huge problem here in Florida. I've had one of the more common forms myself.

The colors of decay are quite powerful!

  11. good luck to the players, I'd love to be to cheer them on. Oh my goodness waiting is just not good, I'm the same as you, SO happy to read the end results...so far fingers crossed no skin cancer but my face looks like a wrinkled dried potato about 30 years too soon, but spring skiing suntans to summer to fall body tans were a sign of status in my little cowboy country BC Canada-love JC too once saw Roy Orbison no kiss tho .

  13. Tanya, that's excellent! Makes you realize how trivial many of our other sources of daily stress really are. My wife works for Hospice in SB, and constantly reminds me that life is damn good compared to the patients that she encounters on a daily basis. It really puts things in perspective. Eat, drink, and be merry!

  17. Forget the photo today, though it is lovely.

TANYA, TANYA! TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! YOU NEED TO NIP THINGS LIKE THAT IN THE BUD INSTEAD OF WAITING UNTIL IT COULD HAVE BEEN TOO LATE. MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THIS WEEK IN 2015 AND GO SEE THE DOC AGAIN. EVERY YEAR FROM NOW ON!

    There. I feel better.

  18. You're lucky that was a simple thing the doc could take care of. Don't take chances with that sort of thing before.

The rail cars look delightfully distressed.

  19. SO glad it turned out to be something you could take care of right away! The weight of worrisome health problems is like no other. Love that decaying scene, decay is underrated:)

  20. Glad you went to the doc and got it taken care of. I had a spot on my face for a while and finally went to the doctor. He said it was a yeast or fungus! How strange!

    Great photo.

  25. I'm of course "late" reading this post but I'm happy you had a good outcome with the Dermatologist. I felt the same way about my dental issue. I've had that problem since last October.
Johnny Cash is a great one to listen to. I love "old style" country music but am more of a Classic Rock kind of gal.
    Can't wait for Spring!
Cool looking train shot by the way.

  26. What a beautiful shot. So happy to hear that the Dr. was able to take care of everything. I would be just like you but I hate doctors and usually won't go until it gets bad. I could probably use a little freezing myself.

  27. Like the color in this shot. I understand why you were so scared, and glad it was nothing serious.

  28. This is great! The colours are fantastic.

  31. I'm listening to Johnny Cash as I type (random tv find) and fits perfectly with colour decay images. Human, warts and all. Your health comes first lady, dr's earlier in future. It's good to be back on the blog circuit.
